SOLITUDE IS WHAT MAKES US STRONGER

With so many things happening around us, what am I supposed to do? This is a question that we all ask and only some persons will have answers to. Solitude is a time for reflection, focus, goal setting, dreaming, relaxing and just time away from others. We do need this sometimes as it helps us to recharge for the next level of our lives. While this sounds comforting and warm, for some, this process is more like a wilderness experience that creates bigger problems. To some this is a time of turmoil, inner fights, panic attacks and sadness because you are now left alone with your thoughts and your thoughts may not be healthy at a time like this where the news around you is all panic in various aspects of society.

Since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, we have seen a world we once knew, shutdown, restart and shutdown again as persons get sick, health workers and other essential workers become overwhelmed, essential items become scarce, parents facing a dilemma of having to deal with their children learning from home and having to decide the next step with their jobs versus child care. It all becomes one ball of confusion. So we are back to square one! What are we supposed to do? Here are four things we can consider to help keep us sane during this time.

  • Take time to get yourself in order.
This includes looking at things such as your budget. Many times in a crisis, money becomes an issue as persons lose their jobs, laid off or made redundant in order for the company to offset costs of production, so it is important to prioritize differently to ensure you don't do unnecessary spending. Also, you can look at your household to see what is needed. After all, you will be staying there longer than usual each day and you want to ensure that you are comfortable enough to stay there.
  • Work on that long time goal/dream.
Do you remember that idea you had a long time ago? That idea that you decided to put aside until you had time to actually do it? Now you have time! Look at your goals and dreams that you had before and use this time to bring them to life. It is time to manifest! You have time that you did not have before, to see how you can live that dream. It could be to start a business, create something to motivate and inspire persons, to further your studies or to learn a new skill, read those books you stacked in the closet. Now is the time to go for it!
  • Stay prayerful
A strong foundation lies in ones spiritual life as it is a part of what makes us whole. We sometimes cannot explain our pain or that emptiness that we feel that pulls us into depression (and this is not to rule out where mental health drugs can assist). Staying prayerful helps us to stay grounded and develops a calmness within us. Philippians 4:7 reminds us of this calmness and peace of mind which we all desire "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
  • Stay Positive
This is easier said than done but it is important to stay in a positive frame of mind because it will not help to worry or join the panic. Instead, look at the good that stems from this crisis. Is it rest that you so desperately needed? Is it more time with your family? Is it a change in career? Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us that we should not lean to our own understanding but trust in the Lord and He will direct our paths. So, focus on things that make you smile, laugh and take your mind off the problem. After all, your mind needs a break too!

What are some other things you have been doing to get through this pandemic?

WHO DO YOU PUT YOUR TRUST IN?

I have always thought about the reasons why we hold ourselves back from our purpose. Why is it we block our destiny even when we know what is ahead? This time, we look in the mirror at a fearfully and wonderfully made gift and talk ourselves out of dreams, visions and purpose.  These reasons are locked in our trust. Who do we trust? Have you ever stopped to ask yourself? Really, in whom do I put my trust. But remember.....Be Honest with yourself! The way we talk to people, treat people, the way we act, the way we think can all be lined up with who we trust and our priorities. Here are some things that trouble us, whether it is one, a few or all of these... Self Esteem I remember always comparing myself with great people which propels me to work extremely hard but this can be both a blessing and a curse.  The good side: We become better as we see our role models as a future reflection of ourselves. So we strive and grind as they did. The bad side:   We starve...

MAN A PLAN, GOD A LAUGH!!!

"OMG!!!! My day was horrible! Nothing that I planned was done. Something always came up!" Do you ever have a day like this? You are extremely upset at the way your day went or should I say THE day because you never owned it! Why does this happen? You plan to go to the store, your brother calls you to help him out with an urgent situation. You plan to go to the beach after bringing home a family member but the family member becomes ill and you need to stay a little longer. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT??? Maybe there was something that God was trying to keep you from, had you gone to your planned destination. Maybe you would have hated the experience more than these unexpected happenings which detoured your plans. Instead of quarrelling about how bad your day goes, be grateful! DARE: I dare you to welcome unexpected changes, just say: "Lord, I trust you because you alone know what's right for me and you alone can take care of me and my situation better than I can". ...
